But after many, many months of trotting out finalist cities like some kind of pageant, Amazon didn’t actually pick a needy city for a true second HQ. When Amazon announced it was looking for a location to build a second headquarters, it decided to turn the whole thing into a contest - with cities across the US practically begging the retail giant to select them in hopes of new economic opportunities.
