As you fire up a new game, after adjusting some settings, you’re off building your town. This backstory is only seen on the game’s Steam page and the in-game wiki. Your job is to slowly build the town, and manage resources as the seasons and years go by. You manage a few families who were banished from their previous home, and now decided to make a new one. Released in 2014, and developed by Shining Rock Studios (which comprises mainly of one dude, and his brother), this indie title is simple in its premise. You can buy the game on Steam.Banished is a city builder game. I’d recommend Banished for anyone who enjoys calm city-builder games or medieval history. It’s vaguely reminiscent of the “castle builder” mode from the RTS game Stronghold: Crusader, albeit in a much more modern and polished form. There’s not a ton to say about it, but it’s got a fun atmosphere nonetheless. There’s a delicate balance somewhere in the middle that can be tedious to achieve.Īll-in-all, Banished is a great game.
If you don’t have enough villagers, you won’t be able to find enough work to run production buildings. If you get too many villagers, you’ll run out of resources. Sometimes, it can be difficult to create a stable population. How you construct your village is entirely up to you. In addition to old age, the villagers can die to famine, cold, disease, work accidents, childbirth, or natural disasters. On the hardest difficulty, surviving even the first winter can be extremely difficult. Depending on what difficulty you choose to play, the game experience will vary. The game functions around the collection of resources, and the hardest resources to manage are the villagers themselves. Either your settlers live, or they do not. Like other city-building games, Banished has no end objective. These are all you are given to begin building a new home for your settlers.
